VPS.net is a hosting solutions provider that targets both the start up web developers and the high traffic ones. VPS.net is a relatively newcomer in the hosting solutions industry and has the added bonus of always backing up your files.
The Hosting Package
VPS.net offers three packages, depending on the intended use of the hosting service. The cheapest is the Business package, which costs $20.00 a month and gives you 5 GB of disk space, 250 GB network transfer limit and should be fit to support sites that average 25,000 visitors a month. Next is the Pro package, which costs $60.00 a month and gives you 25 GB of disk space, 500 GB network transfer limit and supports 125,000 visitors a month. The last and most expensive package is the High Traffic package, which could set you back $150.00 per month and gives you 50 GB of disk space, 1 TB network transfer limit and can handle at least 500,000 users per month.
What’s Great About VPS.net?
- Flexibility to choose if hosting is to be done on separate locations
VPS.net has two locations – one in the UK and one in the US. You have the option to choose where you want to host your site, depending on your needs. This is a good option to have especially if you want to spread your hosting on two locations – so that if one machine goes down, you have another one backing it up.
- Automatic backup
VPS.net offers automatic backup of files whenever you sign up with them. This minimizes the risk of losing your files especially when you are in the middle of a transfer.
- Less dependency on hardware failure
Since VPS.net runs on virtual private servers, hardware malfunction is not something that you should worry about.
- Occasional web coupons for discounted packages
VPS.net offers some discounts and coupons through their website and other partner sites. Be on the look out for these coupons that sometimes offers as much as a 50% discount on their monthly fees.
What’s Disappointing About VPS.net?
✖ No phone support
One huge disappointment with VPS.net is their lack of an accessible customer support team via the phone. All of their support issues are channeled through a forum and via email, which sometimes is prone to speculation if it is a valid company at all.
✖ Frequent downtime
VPS.net experiences downtime quite frequently, which is a big disruption especially if you already have a big user base.
The Bottomline
Overall, it is not recommended to go with VPS.net especially if you have other service providers in your list. The frequent downtime plus the lack of phone customer support can be worrying. You are not guaranteed if your issue will be attended on time.

As a web host company…
As a web host company which has recently started, VPS.net is making its way to the top. Although it’s pricey as compared to others, I absolutely feel secure about this webhost because of the backup that they provide. I never worry about losing files which is mostly a problem for me. It’s guaranteed that hardware failure will not exist as this is one that they work hard to maintain. A phone support for this company is highly recommended though to effectively handle customer concerns.
