How To Switch/Change Web Hosting

Sometimes a customer will become unhappy with the web hosting company that they are using. It can be because of a lot of reasons, like they need more web space or a bigger bandwidth. A lot people tend to never go through with it, though, because they are discouraged by the thought of the trouble they will have to go through to switch to a new provider. You should, without question, change your service provider if you are not happy. It will not be as much trouble as you think. You only need to remember to do a few things.

Don’t shut down your current hosting yet

The first thing you will need to do is keep your current account that you are using open to make sure that your website does not shut down and will continue to be up and running during the process of finding a hosting company. You will, of course, need to find a new company that can provide all of the things that your current provider could and could not give to you. It is best to go with a company that is very established and has a name for itself, because this could only make your website better.

When you have found a web host that you like, all you need to do is decide what package is going to give you what you need and create your new account. Then you will need to download all of your old files and add them to your new account. By connecting first to the old company’s FTP and then to the one of the new provider, you will be able to do this without any problem. You should still keep the old account active for a little longer, and be sure to keep the same email address so that you can keep getting all of your emails.

Copied your site to a new host? Now you can switch DNS:

After you have made the transfer of all your old files, you will need go to your website to check if everything has been correctly updated and working properly, including any links on the pages. When the website shows good functioning results, then you will be able to change the domain name server. These are acquired usually by the web host at the time of registration, but they can be supplied through domain registrars. If you get it through a registrar, then you will need to let the domain provider know so that they can reinstate the old name server with your new one. It will take around 24 to 48 hours before the new domain server is working, so the old web host will take responsibility for your website while this change is occurring. When everything is ready and your new account is activated, only then will you be able to cancel your old account.
